Explanation
of various calendars
In ancient Mesopotamia, the
Zarathustrans (Zoroastrians) celebrated this as the Day of Marduk. Marduk
was the sun god who defeated the sea goddess Tiamat and took claim to the
creation of the world. Tiamat was the cause of the Great Flood according to
the Babylonians, freeing Marduk from the stigma of being a murderer of innocent
men, women, and children.
Pope Gregory died this day in MCCCLVII A.V.C.
(604 AD).
